We are fortunate enough to be able to feature another fabulous wedding from wedding planner Cynthia Basker Events! Cynthia is in our opinion the top wedding planner for the Michiana, South Bend, Notre Dame area. Her weddings are always meticulously detailed, beautiful, well organized and raved about by the brides and grooms they are for. So we’d like to thank Cyndi for allowing us to feature the wedding of Laura & Bill on our wedding blog!
Laura and Bill envisioned their mid December wedding, at the Basilica of the Sacred Heart, to be elegant and sophisticated, yet full of creative touches that gave their guests an idea of who they were as a couple. Characterizing the look and feel they wanted to achieve as ‘winter glamour’ with just a touch of vintage, they decided on a color palette of burnished gold, platinum and the softest blush pink. Bringing their guests to South Bend / Notre Dame in December is a gamble with the weather, but they could not see themselves marry any other place than the Basilica of the Sacred Heart, on the campus of the University of Notre Dame.
The couple met at an MBA Welcome Weekend event on campus, at the Eck Center, which is where guests gathered between the ceremony and the reception for champagne and holiday music provided by family members. The reception was held at the historic Palais Royale in downtown, South Bend, IN. The evening was full of personal details such as the use of the brides’ parents’ cake topper to a customized gingerbread house on the candy buffet.

Basilica Monday at Notre Dame is over and you as a bride or groom have secured your wedding date for 2014 in the Basilica of the Sacred Heart at the University of Notre Dame. Where to start?
Getting married at the Basilica of the Sacred Heart is a destination wedding for most brides, grooms and their families, so we recommend find a wedding planner! Many consider wedding planners “expensive” but the truth of the matter a good wedding planner can more than pay for their services by helping you avoid the pitfalls of the local market. A good wedding planner is knowledgeable about the local wedding vendors, can help you avoid the bad wedding vendors, save you money through their knowledge, works within your wedding budget and being local can can do for you little things that you would have to commute to the area to accomplish. A good wedding planner will help you create your Notre Dame dream wedding!
Next you will want to lock down your wedding reception venue. A few of our favorites are:
Knollwood Country Club Palais Royale
Double Tree by Hilton
Windsor Park Conference Center
After your reception facilities you will need lodging for your guests. A few of our favorites
Double Tree by Hilton
The Inn at Saint Mary’s
Hilton Garden Inn
One of the most important aspects of the wedding reception is the entertainment! Your entertainment will either make or break your wedding reception. The local DJs that we like are Music Machine
Make your Notre Dame wedding a wonderland with floral and decor. Our favorites in the area are:
MichaelAngelos “The Event Company”
A Single Rose
Photo Booths are the answer to entertaining your guests who don’t want to dance along with entertaining everyone else! But beware not all photo booths are created equal, always ask to see a demo of their photo strips to check quality and ask to see an image of the photo booth that will be at your wedding reception because the last thing you want is to be promised a photo booth and they bring a camera on a tripod and no printer! Our favorites are:

How else can you relive those heart felt words from the maid of honor for a lifetime. See the entire moment and not a still of one moment from the wedding day, except through a wedding video! Wedding videos today are not the same as your mom & dads three hours of boring footage, they are highly edited, entertaining works of art, if you hire the right company to document your wedding day.
This wedding video of Sara & Daniel was created by one of the best wedding cinematographers in the Midwest, WEVA Creative Excellence winning company Wedding Day Cinema out of Chicago. You can’t go wrong by hiring them for your Notre Dame Wedding!
Basilica Monday was last week at the Basilica of the Sacred Heart on the campus of Notre Dame University and all the lucky brides and grooms who got their dates should be neck deep in planning their 2013 wedding day! To help with Notre Dame Wedding Planning, here is some wedding day inspiration from wedding planner Cynthia Basker of Celebrated Events in South Bend and the wedding of Mary & Michael.
The check out the gorgeous floral by Michaelangelos “The Event Company”! There are many good florists in the South Bend area, but Michaelangelos’ work is always exceptional. Check out the latest issue of Veils & Vows for their inspiring photo shoot in the spring issue on pages 42 to 53.
According to wedding planner Cynthia Basker: Throughout the planning process, the mantra was ‘soft, summery and romantic’, and I think we most decidedly accomplished that feel. The day was full of meaningful details and family traditions. Among them, the soup course at dinner: Italian Wedding Soup – made from a family recipe, handed down from mother to daughter on the bride’s side. The Groom’s aunts lovingly made and brought with them, traditional Italian cookies, which the guests enjoyed after dinner. The day was so joyful – can’t you see it on their faces?
